I have decided to attempt the Furman FIRST running program. It consists of running 3 days a week and 2 days of cross-training. Seems easy enough, right? Wrong! The 3 runs are difficult. Intervals, tempo and a long run. The paces and plans are layed out in the book and very easy to understand. The paces are extremely fast. But I'm at a place where I know I can be faster and run further. I just need instructions on how to do it. The foot injury is almost gone (knock on wood). I probably will continue to tape and wrap just for support and peace of mind. It feels good to be back on track and I have a feeling that I'm going to see improvements in my time and distance real soon.
One thing that seems to remain true is when my running is "ON", the other areas of my life are as well. I've said it before, but running is my therapy. My happy place. Where I go to battle my biggest competition---> ME!

Summer Girls
Workouts and running have become quite difficult. That foot injury that I sustained at the beginning of Feburary has not healed completely. More than likely this is due to my stubborness of not listening to advice of doctors and other runners and letting it rest. None the less, I have continued to get my daily cardio sessions in. I'm starting on the "it's almost summer" diet this week. With running, I could eat what I wanted without any concern. Looks like those days are gone for now. Rabbit food and nothing delicious is what I have to look forward too. Yay!!!! The things we girls do to look good in a bikini!

The Good, The Bad and The Junk Inbetween
I should be shouting on the roof tops. Jumping for joy. I would if I physically could. I ran the Surf City Huntington Beach half marathon and set a person best time of 1:52. My goal was to break 2:00. Well, I did that and then some. But around mile 12.5 I felt and heard a rip in my heel. The throbbing pain was excrutiating. I limped to the finish line. Scared to stop walking because I could feel my foot tightening up. Over the next few hours it got so bad I couldn't bear any weight on it. The happiness of setting a PR was kicked away by my aching foot.
Over the next few days, I iced, stretched, medicated this pain. Heaven forbid I actually see a doctor about this. That would only validate that I did in fact injury myself. But yesterday I gave in. I went to the physical therapy department at the hospital for an ultrasound. As I figured, it's plantar fasciitis. It's common among runners. My friend showed me how to wrap the heel and some different stretching exercises to do as well. He also suggested KT tape. I guess this tape is a miracle in itself. I actually went to bed last might believing so much in this stuff that I set my alarm to get up and run this morning. Once I took that first morning step, I knew that run wasn't happening. What a disappontment. Another day with no running. I crave my runs. I mentally need them. My attitude suffers terribly when I don't get my daily dose of pavement pounding in.
So at this point, I take it day by day. I'm truely hoping that I'm back on track here very soon. I'm not sure how much more my family and friends can handle the grumpy side of me.

Reflections
To say that "Life is Great", would be an understatement. Over the last 3 months I have been dating Mr. Vegas or H, as most of his friends call him. He's was a very unexpected surprise to my life. We have the best times together and because we go way back as friends, it seems like we have know each other forever. This weekend was a very busy one.
With my daughters Cheer competition in Palm Springs to my half-marathon race on Sunday morning and a super bowl party to finish it off. This amazing man just went with it and really kept it all in persepective for me. He truely is my super hero and I can't wait to see what the future holds for us. I'm pretty sure my awesome run time of 1:52 had a lot to do with his motivation and desire to see me at my best. Yep, I'm a very lucky girl.

Fall Brings New Beginnings
It's been a busy start to the fall season. My girls are busy with college and Jr. High. And my Vegas friend decided to move back to California. Very shocking to me to say the least. He called me on his move here saying he was done with Vegas and wanted to be back in Cali, which he is originally from. He also informed me that he was "moving here for me". Ok? He must be kidding, right?
Anyway, my friend and I ran the Long Beach Half marathon on Oct. 17th and that was awesome. Finished in 2 hours and 10 mins. Months prior I had invited Mr. Vegas friend to come to Long Beach to watch the race. Little did I know he actually would show up at the finish line waiting for me. Now I do have to say, I thought that was pretty awesome. No one does that. My own sisters won't even go to one of my races. So we hung out with my friend and her husband and a few other friends and we watched football at a local bar down by the race. We had lots of fun and he got along well with everyone. Since we both had cars in Long Beach, we left about the same time to head home and just followed each other. We decided to stop off at a burger place once we got back to our home town. We ate and had good conversation. He is a really fun person and seems to get all my quirks. And doesn't mind my flaws or least he didn't seem to be repulsed by my sweatyness at the racing finishing line.
I really am intrigued by Mr. Vegas. We have been friends for many years now and we both know quite a bit about each others past, both good and bad. We always have had great conversations but now that he is here, it somewhat changes the dynamic.
Life is always throwing stuff at you and the only thing we can control is how we react to it.

Running Is My Drug
Running had always been one of my greatest loves. It's my escape from the hectic world and my busy mind. I typically try to run 4-5 times per week schedule permitting. When getting over a love lost, running is great therapy. I visualize myself running away from heartbreak with every stride. If guy ended up being a jerk, then every stride becomes my foot smashing his face in the ground. Mean? Maybe. But seems to leave me feeling so much better after. Since I am back to my single girl status, my running has ben amazing. Faster and much stronger. I have signed up for the Long Beach half marathon mid October. I know I will be ready to tackle those 13.1 miles. I will keep you posted.
